I just watched the movie and enjoyed it. Street art is cool until they make $100,000+ on it. Anyways, here are some more ear poking sounds for you.
.
First, I’m extremely excited to see The Glitch Mob headlining a show with RJD2 and Phantogram at Terminal 5. It’s going to be one of the top shows of the summer and I think The Glitch Mob have developed their sound well enough to end an obstreperous NYC crowd with a bang. When I saw them open at Basscenter 2, they just blew my mind away. The group not only has a distinctive sound that is epic, but they entertain the crowd with their colorful touch boards and synchronous movements.
Here are two songs that are eargasmic with the right speakers and moods:
Well I guess if I’m going to talk about how much I liked The Glitch Mob opening for Bassnectar then I shouldn’t leave out Emancipator opening for Bassnectar in DC last fall. Emancipator has their own unique sound that could be background music to your life. They have sounds similar to Little People, who you can find in our archives by clicking HERE. They surprisingly pumped up a dubstep ready crowd and got the whole room shaking at the 9:30 club. Now I am going to connect these two artists even more because Ooah remixes Emancipator’s “First Snow”. For those of you who don’t know who Ooah is- he is 1/3 of The Glitch Mob trio. Emancipator will be releasing a new remix compilation called Remixes on June 21. I’m looking forward to seeing what other artists have contributed….Stay tuned.
Now I have posted countless remixes of Daft Punk’s “Something About Us” because it is just a classic jam. I’m sure you’ve seen thousands of Ellie Goulding remixes all over the blogosphere, but I am a sucker for this one because it simply flows well.
Foster The People are eating up the blog world lately. We posted a great Myndset remix of this song previously, but this Gigamesh remix leaves more of their original sound.
Lastly, this song doesn’t fit the bunch, but it deserves a spot on this post. In the same sense that I am a sucker for Daft Punk, any Temper Trap remix sends a radar signal through my head. Mac Miller’s K.I.D.S and Best Day Ever were solid mix-tapes that supersede most of these young kids trying to get into your music library. After his 400,000th twitter follower, he released this song, which is his road to a million followers…good luck. I tend to only post music that I truly enjoy listening to. His rapping over Temper Trap doesn’t always flow well, but I respect everything he is trying to do as a well-rounded artist.
Everything moves in cycles. Twice a century the oceans let us know just how small we really are. A winter storm comes out of Antarctica tearing up the Pacific and it sends a huge swell north 2000 miles. When it hits Bells Beach it will turn into the biggest surf this planet has ever seen. I will be there.
Point Break is one of the greatest movies of all time- fact. There is nothing better than hearing a sweet electronic riff getting pumped by Swayze.
.
New to me is the Icelandic electro/electronic band called FM Belfast. This song “underwear” is extremely well done and thevisualsaccompany it nicely. If you like then download album Here.
I fell in love with Skream bass lines after hearing his La Roux’s “In for the kill” remix. Now I don’t like all of his music, but there are certain songs where he throws such a dope bass line that it just revamps the song. The upbeat “night by night” slows down in this remix and hits a more serious note.
Lastly, you may be a blogger who scans through music blogs without ever watching videos that are posted. Well what I have to say is…watch this:
Few things to know: Travis Rice is the greatest snowboarder alive.
His previous (absurd) movie, “That’s it, That’s all,” was epic to say the least. Moreover, for those people who don’t care for snowboarding, the soundtrack is well picked alongside editing from Imax camera footage. It’s how I honestly feel M83 should be visualized. The song in the video should be an instant buy just by knowing that it’s a collaboration between Anthony Gonzalez from M83 and Curt Morgan from Brain Farm.
Artist: The Three Corners of The Earth
Title: “The Fire Shall Devour Us”
Two new Drake joints. Both sound great. I like the combo of Drake, Little Dragon and SBTRKT. I also like the Jai Paul instrumental, if I hadn’t already heard it by G-Eazy (see below).
FTP just released their new song, “Witness” and it doesn’t disappoint. Mark my words, these guys are going somewhere; and fast. FTP is sicker than your average. I really have no other way to put it.
Beirut is one of my favorite bands of all time. “Gulag Orkestar” & “Flying Club Cup” are both amazing albums that I listen to consistently. I love the voice of Zach Condon and I think he has a great story. At age 16, the kid dropped out of high school, moved to Europe for a year, and got introduced to Balkan Folk Music. If there is one thing about Beirut that I like the most, it is that their sound & style are unmatchable. In their most recent album, “March of the Zapotec & Realpeople – Holland,” Zach strayed away from his previous albums and added a more electronic feel to it with electronic beats and synthesizers. Zach recently announced that he will be releasing a new album this summer and performed two unreleased songs a few days ago. I really like this one about his hometown Santa Fe and I think he is coming back to his orginal sound that he had previously before “March of Zaptoc…”

Five years in the making, “Rome” is the collaboration between producer Dangermouse and Italian composer Daniele Luppi. This is a project and I think the outcome is amazing. Dangermouse is the producer behind Gnarls Barkley, Broken Bells and the Gorillaz’s Demon Days album. Now that talent is infused with Daniele Luppi’s interest in Italian film music and the outcome is incredible. It also features Jack White and Norah Jones. I recommend listening to the stream from Rolling Stone. The album comes out May 17 and I’ll surely be purchasing it. Here is featured song from the album for listening purposes:
Buddy Holly was on my very first burned CD. I became very familiar with his music because my parents always played it growing up. This is another album that has serious potential…I mean just look at all the featured artists. I’ll try to post more from this tribute album, which is coming out June 28, but here is an great cover by Modest Mouse. That’ll Be the by TheNJUnderground
.
Mayer Hawthorne released an EP a little while ago in which he covers artists like Jon Brion, E.L.O., Chromeo, and others. It’s really good and its FREE. I’m not going to even post a song from it because I think you should really just download the EP…it’s only 6 songs. #soulswag
Not Some Kid sent us his song and I really enjoyed it. Like I have said previously, you know it’s a good mashup when it doesn’t sound like the song was ripped apart. Moreover, I dig the Secondhand Serenade hook with Jeezy. Check out the Not Some Kid Blog and show some love.
I’m going to hold off on posting as much dubstep as I have been posting. I do love the up and coming genre, but in reality, dubstep is taking over the blog scene and not all of it is truly post-worthy. On the other hand, enjoy these:
This is an electrolyzed jam. Here is a great article from Pitchfork on SBTRKT- very interesting artist. The DJ doesn’t really reveal his face, instead he wears a tribal mask that was created by @HiddenPlace.
The music I make is slightly unexpected and the mask is part of that idea. I’m really into old cultures and new; also, my background has roots globally. It’s inspired the way I conceptually write music, and in the end [the mask] is just the visual identity of that. I just want people to focus on the music, not on where I grew up or what I ate for lunch.
When José González came out with “Heartbeats,” I fell for it hard. I think The Knife did a great job with their version of the song, but I also think their version took away the calm feeling I got when I listened to the original. Ellie Goulding brings that feeling back, and I do like the subtle beat drop- it flows nicely.
This song will not be appreciated properly if you are listening to it through your computer speakers. When I saw Ana Sia open at Basscenter 2, I knew she was unique. This song collaboration has some raw sound and I hope you enjoy it like I do.
When I saw that DJ Kue remixed Hall and Oates, I felt like it was out of his element. First off, if you are actually taking the time to read this little post then you must watch the original music video to this 80’s song (HERE). DJ Kue did a really great job with remix, I like this over any other remix he has made so far. I hope he continues in this direction.
We posted a Sister Wife (Star Sling Remix) mashup with Wiz Khalifa a little while ago. Sometimes I think a remix of a remix of a remix doesn’t give the original enough justice. Star Slinger does a great job with it, but I still really like the original.
