The Sky Was Yellow and The Sun Was Blue

    2010 - 07.29

Alright so i have no idea how i completely missed the La Roux Major Lazer connection but the whole album is mind blowing. Have been listening to it non stop for the past few days. Download here and listen to the dopest remix of Bulletproof here:

La Roux + Major Lazer: Bulletproof (Nacey Remix ft. Matt Hemerlein)

Ive got two Hide and Seek remixes for you guys this week. The first will be posted today; its by Glasses Malone feat. Lil Wayne. I personally like the classic Jay-Z Game version but this one is sick non the less:

Glasses Malone: What We Need (Ft. Imogen Heap & Lil Wayne)

A lot of Coldplay remixes have been dropped this summer, don’t know why but I’m not complaining. This one has much more of a club feel to it:

    Coldplay: The Scientist (A-Tronic Remix)

After covering Hype Machine for the past few weeks Two Door Cinema seems to be the new group to remix:

Two Door Cinema: What You Know (Nighty Max remix)

    Payin' the bills...

    DJ Bahler Mixtape

    2010 - 07.24

Check it, a dope mixtape from an up and comer out of Los Angeles. He created a mixtape called Mashin’ Pit which revolves around the band Passion Pit. Pretty dope stuff if you ask me. Take the time and download it, while also becoming a fan of his on facebook

    Download here: Mashin’ Pit Mixtape

Some big names for a fine July Friday

Ricky Ross is coming through with a new album that just dropped yesterday. Support  the big guy and good music by buying his album here. No need for a description here with Hova spitting on the second verse:

Rick Ross: Free Mason feat. Jay-Z

Mike Posner is also coming out with a new album soon, here is a leak off of it:

    Mike Posner: Please Don’t Go

Sammy Adams is flyin jets over Boston in this next jam from the kid. He teams up with Spitta for a second time to create a smooth tune.

Sam Adams: Fly Jets Over Boston f. Curren$y

Brenton Duvall is an up and coming mashup artist/producer out of the University of Colorado. We have posted his stuff in the past and people really dug it. He has topped Hype Machine a couple times and was featured on Brobible’s Summer Mixtapes. Interview coming soon

Brenton Duvall: Are You That Somebody (Brenton Duvall Remix)

    Payin' the bills...

A Sample and a Drum Beat

    2010 - 07.22

Doomtree. Haven’t heard of them? Don’t worry neither have we….until now. With a sound reminscent of Pretty Lights this group from the midwest combines hip-hop with an electro punk feel. Show em some love over at their fan page and check out more at their website.

    Doomtree – The Bully Plank

My new favorite song. Dubstep is for real and here to stay so haters better get used to it. Flux Pavilion absolutely destroys this remix of DJ Fresh’s Gold Dust turning it into a bass thumping electro ballad. Check out more on Flux Pavilion here.

DJ Fresh: Gold Dust (Flux Pavilion Remix)

Emancipator is back again, this time mixing his beats with Nas and Jay-Z. This is an untapped resource in the remix game right now, can’t wait to see what comes out next.

Emancipator vs. Nas & Jay-Z: If I Ruled The Smoke Signals

Drum and Bass is a form of dubstep that is a bit faster pace but still just as dope. Once again, this type of music is still making its way to the U.S but expect to hear more of it this throughout the year. Here is an example of what it sounds like in a sick song by the U.K’s own Professor Green feat. Lily Allen

Professor Green Feat. Lily Allen: Just Be Good To Green (Camo & Krooked Remix)

This song by M83 was featured as the song to the opening montage of Travis Rice’s epic snowboard video That’s it That’s All. If you have never watched that I recommend doing so immediately. Anyways the songs epic, but Datsik takes it to a whole notha level by dubbing this beauty out of this world.

M83: We Own the Sky (Datsik Remix)

Got some new music for ya. Guards are a must listen. If you’re into the Arcade Fire, you’re gonna dig these guys.  You can get their EP free, just click this sentence. You are gonna be stoked, trust me. French Films have a sound that I’m really liking, I wish I could find more of their songs. It’s almost reminiscent of Joy Division but don’t jump on me, it’s just an opinion. I’m excited to see what’s next to come from these guys. At this point in time, you can’t really surf the indie blogs without seeing a write up on Keep Shelly In Athens. I have to admit I was a late adopter, but I’m down for sure now. It’s some groovin’ shit. Wise Blood is another band who’s wagon deserves to be hopped. Check out the Bandcamp to stream the entire ‘+’ EP and pick up a free single while you’re there.

    Split Second Interview

    2010 - 07.19

Split Second is a hip-hop trio that hails from the Taft School in Watertown Connecticut. A fresh sounding bunch with prep school flare, do not over look these guys. They may be young but their lyrics are extremely appealing to the prep school scene and beyond; using their experiences as a way to show people what there lives are like. Become a fan of Split Second at their Facebook page and download there mixtape Polos & Solos for free here

    Split Second: Sundress

    Split Second: Fifty Five Blocks

    Split Second: Fall From Grace

    Split Second: Prep Boy Academy

How did Split Second start? Where did this journey begin for you guys?

Everything began at the Taft School, a prep school, in Watertown, CT. The three of us decided to seriously start making music after a brief stint with a few friends of ours in which we we’re known as “The HDT Boyz.” That group was fun, made a song called “I Love Prep School,” try to find it if you can! Shouts to the guys apart of that.

What was the initial reaction like from people when they heard you were starting a hip hop group?

It honestly depends on whom it was that found out we were making music. To be honest, outside of our Taft environment everyone was basically down for it and supportive. Ironically, we live on campus most of the year and the people at our school were generally against it. Being that we go to prep school, most kids at our school thought it was a joke that we we’re going to do Hip-Hop music. That being said, there we’re definitely a good amount of people at our school that embraced us from the start, and with how we are doing now everyone else has seemed to hop on board.

What was some of the inspiration that went into making Polos and Solos?

Inspiration for Polos & Solos came from everyday prep school life – from living life on campus, to parties, to trips to VT, NYC, Bahamas, and MV for example. We really just want to expose the general prep school life style as it has not really been done before, ever. The actual name comes from most of the attire we wear and events that take place in our lives. We felt it was very relatable name.

What was the reaction to your new mixtape Polos and Solos?

The reaction to Polos & Solos has been fantastic. The mixtape has done well and we just hope the buzz keeps circulating throughout the summer and entering the next school year. We’ve gotten a lot of great feedback thus far and that’s all we can ask for. People seem to really be embracing this prep school movement we are trying to push, whether they went to, currently attend, or never did go to a prep school.

How would you say you guys are different then other hip hop artists out there?

As far as being different from other artists out there, I’d say we are very versatile. Not that other artists aren’t, but if you listen to Polos& Solos there’s honestly something for any type of Hip Hop fan – from being very lyrical, to party songs, to something for the ladies, to head nodders for the guys, it’s all there. There’s that aspect, and obviously again, being from a prep school. We have had different experiences that have not yet truly been exposed in music so that makes us unique in its own.

If given the opportunity, who are some artists and producers you guys would like to work with?

We’ve actually been listening to a lot of Mac Miller recently so we’d be interested in working with him – his flow is dope. We’d also would like to work with other artists such as Chiddy Bang. Zaphoon is crazy with his tracks and Chiddy just brings it all together. We have worked with other artists such as The Dean’s List and Chris Webby in the past and would definitely want to connect with them again.

Do you prefer writing and recording, performing live or both?

We love the whole process of making and performing music. From creating the instrumental, to writing , to recording, it’s something we truly enjoy. The performing aspect brings it all together in which we’re can demonstrate our passion for music with the listeners and connect with them on a different level.

What has been the most exciting moment thus far in your career?

We can’t really pinpoint the most exciting moment thus far. It’s been a rewarding and thrilling experience so far and we just hope everything continues to advance and elevate for us. We have a strong team, that extends from Split Second, including some other artists and individuals – C. Evs, Gurf, Dream, TUC – so with all of us being involved we hope to a be making a lot of news very shortly.

What is next for Split Second? New mixtape upcoming shows etc.?

Up next for Split Second is simply making more music, performing, and broadening the fan base. We have a few things in the works which we won’t mention now, but people will soon find out. Between collabs and relationships with companies, some good things are happening. We have shows lined up and with the success of Polos & Solos more are to follow. The new mixtape is in the works so be on the lookout.

More new material from Panda Bear. Bullseye was recorded live at the Primavera Sound Festival in Spain. Cut Copy has a new single circulating the internet called Where I’m Going. I’m a fan of anythings those guys do. Rumor has it that the 3rd Cut Copy LP will be out early next year. As of now the album has no title, but on the Cut Copy website there is short video about the making of the album and it opens with “Monkey Shines”. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. I found another COOLRUNNINGS remix that sounds really good. You can probably guess I’m really diggin’ that song. What do you get when you mix the Black Lips with The King Khan & BBQ Show? The gospel garage rock supergroup known as The Almighty Defenders of course. They have a self titled album out with a bunch of songs that are really easy to like. The Samps are definitely worth a listen. Despite being under two minutes, Wizard’s Sleeve goes through a decently wide spectrum of sound, density, and tempo. If you’re looking for a little pick me up, afro-beat usually does the trick. Luckily we have it here for you, enjoy.

New track from Boston’s Boy. Keep supporting this kid as he gains momentum into his Fall tour

Sam Adams: Still I Rise (Feat. G Curtis)

Another mashup of Coldplay and Drake. I like this one a lot better then the Fly Scientist, much more natural sounding

Drake & Coldplay: The Best Strawberry

Another Ellie song, another remix. People cannot go wrong remixing this girl. Welcome to the Goulding experiment

Moonhearts play some rockin’ music. If you’re into the Californian garage surf punk stuff, these guys are right up your alley. They have a self titled release out available on TickTackTotally, how about that. Another new Keepaway tack, this time from the recent Brooklyn Bowl show. Let’s hope they announce a full length release soon. Childish Gambino, or Donald Glover if you prefer, just released his first full length album titled, Culdesac. It’s just as clever as the mixtapes and the beats are something different from your normal rap album, plus it’s free so you can’t really go wrong. Blackbird Blackbird is psychedelic pop artist out of San Fransico. Check out the tumblr for more info, or just enjoy Hawaii accompanied by a Teen Daze remix.

A full length Panda Bear album is in the works and I am stoked. Until then, we have two singles from the Tomboy 7″ to enjoy. Big Boi’s album dropped a few days ago and it is sick. Check out the Organized Noize collabo as well as a racy tune featuring T.I.P.. I’m really digging COOLRUNNINGS. Their music is perfect for these hot lazy days. I came across Coyote Clean Up deep in the caverns of the in(die)ternet and was taken completely by surprise. Their twenty three song LP, Double Trouble Doo Doo Bubble, is all over the place in the best way. Beach Fossils is Brooklyn band making great little lighthearted yet intimate pop songs, which the world needs more of in my opinion. To close out the week, we have the first song from Ratatat’s most recent release, LP4. They definitly took a new approach in the album but you can still hear the classic Ratatat sound we’ve all grown to love.
